AMARAVATI – In a move that marks the end of years of administrative ambiguity, Andhra Pradesh has officially solidified its identity. The State Government, backed by a landmark Act of Parliament, has released the new official map of Andhra Pradesh, designating Amaravati as the state’s sole and permanent capital.

A Legislative First

The journey to this moment reached its climax through the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026. In a historic first for the Indian Democracy, the Parliament stepped in to finalize a state capital through central legislation. This federal stamp of approval provides Amaravati with an unprecedented level of legal protection and permanence.

The law has been applied with retrospective effect from June 2, 2024, effectively nullifying the “Three Capitals” policy of the previous administration and ensuring administrative continuity from the heart of the state.

The Map of Progress: 28 Districts

Accompanying the capital announcement is a significant administrative overhaul. The state has expanded its administrative map to include 28 districts, following the creation of:

  1. Markapuram District
  2. Polavaram District

The Survey of India has already moved to update the official Map of India to reflect these changes. This synchronization between the State and Center ensures that all national records and geographical data now recognize Amaravati as the singular powerhouse of Andhra Pradesh.

Celebrations in the Capital Region

The news has sparked widespread celebrations across the villages of the capital region. For the farmers who gave up their lands under the Land Pooling Scheme, this is seen as a hard-won victory for justice.

“This isn’t just a map; it’s our future,” said a local farmer during the celebrations in Thullur. “The uncertainty that clouded our lives for years has finally vanished.”

Looking Ahead

With the legal hurdles cleared and the official maps printed, the focus now shifts entirely to construction and development. The “People’s Capital” is no longer just a vision on paper—it is the legally enshrined, federally recognized, and permanent soul of Andhra Pradesh.
